My Time at Myrtle Beach

I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Myrtle Beach in South Carolina twice now and I’ve enjoyed my visit each time! The most recent visit was with my best friend towards the end of May into early June when the state opened up after lockdown. The previous visit was with my boyfriend in November of 2019 for the Thanksgiving four day weekend.

Since it is fall, I thought it would be appropriate to talk about my time in Myrtle Beach from November of 2019.

3 Reasons why we went

Last year, my boyfriend and I took the 9 hour drive from Pennsylvania to South Carolina. We stayed at Myrtle Beach from November 28th, 2019 to December 1st, 2019. We decided to take this trip fro 3 reasons.

The first being was because of my birthday. My birthday is on November 28th and for my birthday I wanted to travel to a location I’ve never been to before. So, I decided Myrtle Beach in the south would be wonderful compared to the cold up in Pennsylvania.

The second reason is because of Thanksgiving. Last year, my birthday happened to fall on Thanksgiving (American Thanksgiving) and I wanted to spend time with my boyfriend. Since my birthday is usually very close or falls on Thanksgiving, and my boyfriend and I are usually with our own families, I wanted to take one year to celebrate Thanksgiving with him.

The third and final reason was because of our anniversary. On my birthday my boyfriend asked me to be his girlfriend and last year, on November 28th, was our 7th anniversary together. As mentioned before, since my birthday is so close to the holiday and we’re usually not together, it’s rare that we actually spend time together and have a legit anniversary day. So, last year I wanted us to be together for our 7 year anniversary. A triple whammy which created our getaway to Myrtle Beach.

What we did during the trip

That first day we were both exhausted from the long drive so we just had my birthday dinner at a Ruby Tuesday in the closest Tanger Outlet to the hotel. But for the remainder of the days I wanted to explore what Myrtle Beach had to offer.

We went to the Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum, Alligator Adventure (had alligators and other animals), the Tanger Outlets to shop, walked in the sand along the beach, saw the SkyWheel, went to the Ripley’s Aquarium, visited a local mall, and Broadway at the Beach which is a little area with shops, games, and restaurants.

To sum up our trip

My boyfriend and I had such a wonderful time down there. The weather was relatively warm during the day but cool during the early mornings and night which is perfect during the fall. If you are looking for a location that isn’t too cool or cold during the fall then I’d recommend Myrtle Beach. Although, in my opinion I’d say the weather wasn’t warm enough to go swimming on the beach but if that’s not a problem for you then go for it! We did see very few people in the water so I assume the water temperature would still have been ok.

There are a lot of activities and places in Myrtle Beach. However, the downside to this is that a lot of the activities and restaurants are spaced out and you definitely need a car or rely heavily on Uber. You can walk to a few of the spots, but overall a car is needed. If you’re flying into the Myrtle Beach airport I’d suggest renting a car for the time you’re visiting. This is the south and things are very spaced out or far from one another, so having a vehicle or access to Uber/Lyft if a must.

Despite this, Myrtle Beach is a beautiful place for anyone looking for those who are looking to be close to the beach, yet have some options for activities in the vicinity, with lovely weather during the fall, and the overall slow pace of the south.
