During my solo New England road trip, I stayed at the Hampton Inn in Dover, New Hampshire after my day in Portsmouth and hiking on the Gonic Trails. I had a single, nonsmoking room with 2 queen beds. I only stayed for 1 night and left on October 19th, 2021.
Based on my one night stay, I wanted to do a little review on the hotel I stayed in. (Sorry there aren’t any pictures of this hotel room, I forgot to take them because I was so tired that day)

Area
Dover is a nice little area in New Hampshire. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of food options and shops along the road. You had a Applebee’s, Chili’s, and other restaurants. Plus, like I mentioned, there are a lot of shops. If you go a few minutes on the backroads, then you’re in some beautiful, quiet neighborhoods.
There’s even a historic area called the Salmon Falls Mill Historic District! In addition, there’s outlets for all my shoppers out there, like the Tanger Outlets Kittery. If I had known this when I stayed here, I would’ve devoted another day to exploring the area a bit more.
Although I didn’t get to explore the area or grab food here, what I saw on the map was pretty good. You don’t have to worry about being in a hotel with no options or places close by. This little area of Dover has you covered!
Friendly staff
The staff were very friendly and professional. Although I had a bit of a wait when I was trying to check-in with them, when I did interact with the receptionist, she was very pleasant to talk to. From my observations of how the receptionist interacted with other guests at the front counter as well, I can definitely say that they were very nice, professional, and accommodating.

Amenities
The Hampton Inn hotel also has some amenities. This is the list of amenities:
- indoor pool
- spa (fitness center)
- business facility
- continental breakfast
- mini golf
- cleaning services
- shuttle service
There are other amenities that I didn’t list here but can be found by clicking the link here. They’re just standard amenities that you would find in most hotels.

Cleanliness
I give cleanliness 4.5 out of 5 stars. The hotel room was very clean, as compared to the Crowne Plaza hotel, even in the bathroom. I didn’t see dust around, the sink and shower area were clean, I honestly have nothing more to say. I was very happy with the cleanliness of the room.
Cost for the room
The cost for my one room, 2 queen beds was $161 for the night. The price included free breakfast as well. You can find other hotels that are cheaper, however this time around I didn’t mind paying for it. The hotel, surrounding area, and room are good and worth the price, in my opinion.
Also, if you’re thinking about doing some hiking in Rochester (like The Gonic Trails I hiked on), the Hampton Inn isn’t that far from the trails.
Final thoughts
Overall, I was very pleased with my room in the Hampton Inn. The price was a bit high but not too bad. The Dover area is lovely and it’s filled with restaurants, shops, and other activities like skiing near by. So, you’re not short on options. The blankets and beds were extremely comfy, everything was clean, and I would definitely go back to this hotel if I was in the area.
If you’re looking to visit an area of New Hampshire where you can go on some hikes, ski, or do other activities like shopping, I highly recommend you stay at the Hampton Inn in Dover!
